Norm Bossert
Spiritual Leader
Howard is Professor Emeritus of History at Florida International University where he taught early American history as well as modern Jewish history for 35 years. His most recent book is Haven of Liberty: New York Jews in the New World, 1654-1865, which, with its two companion books, was designated “Jewish Book of the Year” by the Jewish Book Council in 2011.

Jerome Mandel
Vice President
Jerome is Professor Emeritus of Medieval English Literature and was the sometime Chair of the English Department at Tel Aviv University. In addition to a book on Geoffrey Chaucer, he is the author of two novels and two books of short stories.
Betty Bernz
Secretary
Betty was raised in a small town on Long Island and, after completing four freezing years of college in Upstate New York, headed to Tallahassee for a warmer graduate degree. During the summer, Betty and her husband live in a condo in Sherwood Forest, relocating to Greenville when the weather shifts. Besides her involvement with the BJC, Betty enjoys mahjong, bridge, hiking, road cycling, volunteering, reading, and spending time with her dog.
